Supporting Post-Miscarriage Emotional Wellbeing with Acupuncture

I’m pleased to share that my latest article has been published in the European Journal of Chinese Medicine’s 2024 edition! This piece, titled “Acupuncture as a Supportive Intervention for Post-Miscarriage Emotional Wellbeing and Subsequent Pregnancy Preparation,” delves into a topic that’s both professionally and personally meaningful to me.

Why This Article Matters to Me

As some of you may know, miscarriage is something I feel deeply about, both from my own personal experience and from supporting clients through. It’s also a journey I’ve supported many of my patients with pregnancy preparation after pregnancy loss. Miscarriage is one of the most challenging, emotionally fraught experiences a person can go through, and there is often silence and isolation around it. My hope is to open up a larger conversation—one that shines a light on this experience, validates the journey, and reminds those affected that they are not alone. Most importantly, I hope to help women find the support they need, in whatever form that may take.

What the Article Explores

This publication is a case study focusing on Five Element acupuncture, a modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how it can play a powerful role in both reproductive health and supportive care. The article examines how acupuncture can support emotional and physical recovery after a miscarriage, and how this support could help to improve future pregnancy outcomes.

The Importance of Support After Miscarriage

Navigating the aftermath of a miscarriage often requires a unique blend of emotional and physical support. Acupuncture, particularly through the Five Element approach, allows us to address both aspects, offering a pathway to process trauma, balance hormones, feel supported and approach future pregnancies and other more confidence and resources. The techniques and insights discussed in this article aim to bring hope and support to those facing this journey.
